In the presence of the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, " may God protect him," Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace, represented by His Excellency Ahmed Khalfan Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Tolerance, and Mr. Jamal Saif, member of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace and Mr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director of Operations at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace, concluded its participation as one of the gold sponsors in the “Peace Match” in the Italian capital city of Rome yesterday.
Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein alongside Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona inaugurated the match by planting an olive tree symbolizing peace; a ceremony highlighting the event’s objective of establishing peace and human principles which ultimately leads to the unification of the human race.
The match came at the invitation of Maradona, under the patronage of Pope Francis and was titled "Uniting for Peace" with the participation of a number of football stars including star of the UAE and Al Wahda Club, Ismail Matar, the only Arab player partaking in the event.
During the meeting with Pope Francis, the delegation of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace introduced the Award’s guiding principles, its mission and its message to the world. For his part, Al Mansouri expressed his gratitude and contentment of the Award’s participation at the “Peace Match”, which serves as platform to deliver this message, originating from the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; a message that is shared with the participating delegations of countries from all over the world with the definitive purpose of building bridges of cooperation in the near future.
Al Mansouri stressed the significance of the Award’s participation in the “Peace Match”, its name merged with the name of Dubai and its rulers, reflecting the world’s perception that Dubai has become one of the most influential cities in the world in the strive for world peace through its charitable and humanitarian initiatives.
The “Peace Match” ended in victory for the Friends of Ronaldinho yielding four goals vs. three goals for the Friends of Francesco Totti and Maradona all in favor of the victims of the earthquake, that hit the center of Rome earlier in August.
